The Passing of the Parade Shillelagh

This year The Downtown Melbourne St. Patrick's Day Parade began a new tradition, The Passing of the Grand Marshal Shillelagh. Our Shillelagh, an authentic Blackthorn walking stick from County Wicklow Ireland, is the symbol of the Parade's Grand Marshal. Last year's Parade Grand Marshal, MCC Principal Ernest Herrington, passed the Parade Shillelagh to this year's Parade Grand Marshal, Father Doug Bailey of Our Lady of Lourdes, during a celebration at Meg O' Malleys Restaurant and Pub on Monday, February 24th at 7 pm.
